Kobane Day 117: YPG Repells ISIS Attempts To Sieze Mishtenur Hill

YPG Fighter On Front Lines In Kobane

Day 117 saw intensified attacks by ISIS on key areas around Kobane. Intense clashes ensued but Kurdish forces were able to repell the ISIS onslaught after hours of fighting. The U.S. Air Force continued launching strikes around Kobane in support of Kurdish fighters on the ground. In total the U.S. launched 9 strikes over the past 24 hours in Kobane.

Overnight ISIS tried to carry out attacks near the Mekteba Resh (the Black School) and positions in Southeast Kobanî which were earlier liberated by Kurdish forces. The fighting lasted into the morning hours and the majority of ISIS forces have been cleared from the area. The YPG stated that ISIS suffered numerous losses but they did not provide any figures.

In the foothills of Mishtenur Hill, during a battle overnight, 25 militants from ISIS were confirmed killed.  YPG forces reportedly managed to capture 5 AK-47 rifles, 21 magazines of AK-47, 840 bullets, 1 RPG-7 rocket launcher, 2 rockets of RPG-7, 15 hand grenades, and a field protective gas mask.

While ISIS continues to launch fresh attacks and reinforce their front lines the Kurds were able to liberate 2 additional streets overnight in southeast Kobane. The last couple of days has been slow moving for the Kurdish advance yet momentum still appears to be on their side in most part due to coalition air strikes and peshmerga artillery.
